Having lived in Kameoka City which is located in Kyoto Prefecture in Japan for almost 12 years (I cover that part of my life in Kameoka Jiman) and having worked in Kyoto for almost seven, I’d like to think I know a bit about Kyoto with it being only a 20-30 minute train ride away. I started seriously taking pictures of my life here about seven years ago, when I started noticing beauty in everything around me. My interest in Kyoto also grew. The reason? Having to leave Kyoto after five years on the JET Program. When it came time to leave, I realized that I wasn’t ready to part from such a richly beautiful part of Japan where most people would love the chance to live and which I had been able to call home for the past five years. Luckily, I was able to come back again after two months (guess it was more like a long vacation to the States, haha) and since then I’ve made it a point to take pictures when I can, because this memory isn’t getting any better. ☺
Many a good friend coming and going (it’s not easy getting close to somebody only to see them off eventually) and my current job not affording me a schedule similar to those of friends in close vicinity, I find myself alone quite a bit. If I wait to go and do anything with friends, I’d be waiting a long time. So, it’s only logical to do some exploring, or some ぶらぶらbura-bura, ひとりでhitori de (alone).
I’ve been using my Facebook account to share pictures of my life here to namely family and friends back home or not in Japan. But my friend, Laurel, has been advising me for sometime to start a blog to reach more people to share the things that I like about life in Kyoto, like the sites and food (check out Hitori Kyoto for all the yummy stuff). So here I am. I hope that you enjoy Kyoto through my eyes, sometimes with friends and sometimes ひとりで hitori de.
