八坂庚申堂Yasaka Koushin-dou Temple

八坂庚申堂Yasaka Koushin-dou is a small temple found in 東山Higashiyama within the vicinity of 清水寺Kiyomizu-dera (Kiyomizu Temple). It is dedicated to a blue guardian warrior, Shoumen Kangou, and the three wise monkeys (traditionally, monkeys are believed to be kind spirits that protect people from evil and harm.) who represent the faith of the temple, Koushin faith, in which one believes that Koushin-san (the nickname for Shoumen Kangou) will help those good of heart; however, those who are bad will be punished by him.

These kukurizarus represent how one needs to keep the mischievous side that every person has under wraps. Many a person has put one of his uncontrollable desires in one of these kukurizarus which makes the desire to vanish, thus make him a better person which allows his wishes to come true.
